Paisley
Historic Paisley is a bustling town situated eight miles away from Glasgow. Renowned for its beautiful architecture, Paisley became well-known during the 18th and 19th centuries for the production of cloth with the distinctive Paisley Pattern.

Paisley Museum houses a wealth of treasures, from Ancient Egyptian artefacts to reminders of Scotland's industrial past and natural heritage. Coats Observatory is also accessible from the museum, one of only four public observatories in the United Kingdom, all of which are located in Scotland.

Gleniffer Braes Country Park lies to the south of the town of Paisley. The beautiful moorland landscape is approximately 1300 acres in area and includes spectacular panoramic views, woodlands, wildlife, waymarked and guided walks, and the Glen Nature Trail beginning near the information centre.

The Lagoon Centre is great for a family day out. As well as the indoor swimming pool with wave machine and a waterslide, there is a fitness centre and an indoor ice skating rink where the Paisley Pirates play ice hockey.

Former monastery Paisley Abbey is a historic mediaeval building dating back to 1163. The Abbey is the burial place of a number of notable figures from Scottish history, the views from the rooftop and stained glass windows are stunning.

The Paisley Shopping Centre is a great place to shop, it’s covered and situated centrally at the heart of Paisley Town. There is a great collection of shops and you should be able to keep each member of the family happy with what’s on offer.

The Paisley Thread Mill Museum opened in 2003 and quickly became one of the town's must-see attractions. In addition to a vast array of mill artifacts, the museum is home to a fantastic collection of vintage pictures and video footage of the town. The museum is run by volunteers - most of them ex Paisley Mill workers themselves.

The Piazza Shopping Centre has a wide range of shops and is situated in the heart of Paisley - perfect for a day trip on the bus. The Piazza Shopping Centre is also at the heart of the community, with strong links to a number of charities around the town, supporting various community events and promoting Fairtrade.

Sma’ Shot Cottages unqiue in Scotland and are a tangible reference to Paisley's weaving history. They provide a good insight into the town in past times and provide visitors with the opportunity to see two distinct historical periods. A tea room, exhibition area and shop complement the displays on offer in the cottages themselves.
