Corbridge
In Victorian times Corbridge was a place renowned for its small shops and several of the decorated fronts still survive. As well as being an ideal base to explore the beauty of Northumberland it is also well known as the town from which to explore the famous Hadrian's Wall.
-
Visitors to Corbridge can walk along the main street of this Roman garrison town, flanked by the remains of granaries, a fountain house, markets, workshops and temples.

Begun in AD122 by the Romans, the exact purpose of Hadrian's Wall is unclear, though it served for some time as a garrison. Although much of the 73 miles of the wall has disappeared, visitors can walk a preserved section from Wallsend to Bowness-on-Solway, enjoying fantastic views and reminders of England's Roman history along the way.
