Newcastle was voted ‘top English city’ in the 2005 Guardian travel guides for the third time running. This title comes as no surprise to those who know the city as it is bursting with entertainment, stylish shops and bars and lets not forget the famous St James’s Park – the home of Newcastle United Football Club.

You also have the choice of two Student Unions with Solution at Newcastle University and Wiggle at Northumbria - both playing music to keep you going all night!

Definitely the cheap and cheerful option but there is no need to be fussy when it comes to great food. Charlie’s offers the ‘all you can eat’ option which will satisfy any appetite. It does get busy at popular times of the day but that’s a sign that it really is good value for money and also adds to the laidback self service style.

Eldon Square shopping centre is the place to go if you are a shopaholic like me. As well as a huge selection of shops there is a really vibrant atmosphere and lots of great eateries. I’d recommend it to anyone!
